在印度瓦拉纳西的杜尔加庙一带，生活着一群长尾叶猴。这种猴身长不过六七十厘米，而尾巴却有七八十厘米长。它们身上的毛是粽灰色的，面部、耳朵、手、脚却都是黑色的`。瓦拉纳西人把杜尔加庙当作神庙，在杜尔加庙一带生活的长尾叶猴，也就被当成了神猴。每天，许许多多香客带着各种各样好吃的东西去喂养神猴，祈求神猴保佑自己和亲属遇难呈祥，逢凶化吉，平安幸福，心想事成。平时，神猴们大摇大摆地在大街上行走，见水果拿水果，见花生拿花生，人们也只敢“喏喏”连声。
一只神猴在神庙一带呆腻了，独自跑到另外一个国家，想见识见识异国风光，结果，被一个耍猴人抓了去。耍猴人把它带到街头，让它翻跟头、钻圈、拿着盘子向围观的人讨钱。
神猴生气地把盘
耍猴人扬起鞭子说：“看你这神气，是想讨打吧！”说着，一鞭子抽下去，神猴痛得“叽叽”直叫。
