Title: The Importance of Reading in English Learning
Introduction:
In this article, I will discuss the importance of reading in English learning. Reading is an essential skill for language acquisition, and through reading, students can improve their vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension skills. In a teacher-led classroom, the teacher plays a crucial role in guiding and facilitating students' reading activities.
Body:
1. Vocabulary Expansion:
Reading exposes students to a wide range of vocabulary. Through reading, students encounter new words and learn their meanings in context. They can also learn how to use these words in real-life situations. The teacher can provide explanations and examples of new words, ensuring that students understand the meaning and usage.
2. Grammar Improvement:
Reading helps students internalize grammar rules naturally. By reading texts written by native speakers, students can observe how grammar structures are used correctly and gain a better understanding of sentence patterns. The teacher can highlight grammar points in the text and explain their usage to the students.
3. Comprehension Skills:
Reading improves students' reading comprehension, which is essential for understanding written texts and extracting information. The teacher can guide students in understanding the main ideas, supporting details, and the overall structure of the text. They can also teach reading strategies, such as skimming and scanning, to help students comprehend the text more effectively.
4. Cultural Awareness:
Through reading, students can gain insights into different cultures and perspectives. Reading texts from various genres and authors exposes students to diverse cultures, traditions, and values. The teacher can facilitate discussions on cultural aspects presented in the text, encouraging students to share their thoughts and opinions.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, reading plays a vital role in English learning. It helps students expand their vocabulary, improve their grammar, enhance their comprehension skills, and develop cultural awareness. In a teacher-led classroom, the teacher's guidance and support are essential in facilitating students' reading activities and maximizing their learning outcomes.

Introduction:
In this article, I will discuss the benefits of group discussions in English learning. Group discussions provide students with opportunities to practice speaking and listening skills, develop critical thinking, and enhance their overall language proficiency. In a discussion-based classroom, students actively engage in conversations, share ideas, and learn from each other.

2. Critical Thinking Skills:
Group discussions promote critical thinking and analytical skills. Students are encouraged to analyze different viewpoints, evaluate arguments, and express their own opinions. They learn to support their ideas with evidence and engage in constructive debates. The teacher can guide the discussions, ask thought-provoking questions, and provide feedback to enhance students' critical thinking abilities.
3. Collaboration and Teamwork:
Group discussions foster collaboration and teamwork among students. They need to work together to understand the topic, exchange ideas, and reach a consensus. Through collaborative learning, students can learn from their peers, gain new perspectives, and develop interpersonal skills. Through regular practice, students overcome the fear of making mistakes and gain confidence in their language abilities.

In conclusion, group discussions offer numerous benefits in English learning. They provide opportunities for speaking and listening practice, develop critical thinking skills, promote collaboration and teamwork, and build students' confidence. Some students like classes where teachers lecture (do all of the talking) in class. Other students prefer classes where the students do some of the talking. Which type of class do you prefer? Give specific reasons and details to support your choice.
In my country, the lecture system is the most common system. It is the one I prefer for three reasons: I am used t the lecture system; it is an efficient system; I am too shy to talk in class.
All my life, I have listened to teachers. They come into the room, open their books, and start to lecture. We students sit quietly at our desks and take notes. We never ask questions because we don’t want to seem stupid. At the end of the course, we are given a test. If we can repeat on the test what the teacher said in class, we will get a good grade.
The lecture system is an efficient one. Te teacher is the one who knows the subject, not the students. It is a waste of time listening to a student’s ideas. What good will that does me? Time is short. I want the teacher to give me as much information as he or she can during the class period.
Even if we could talk in class, I would never open my mouth. I am much too shy. I w
ould be afraid the other students would laugh at me and make fun of my ideas. I prefer to listen to the teacher and memorize the teacher’s ideas.I hope I can always study in a school where they use the lecture system. I think it is better to continue with what one is used to. I also think that there is a lot of information that I must learn in the most efficient manner possible. I wouldn’t want to interrupt a teacher with my foolish questions.
