Waiting for Something Special

Article One

Waiting for something special can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. It's that feeling of anticipation, the unknown, and the possibility of something extraordinary happening that keeps us on edge. Whether it's waiting for a job offer, waiting for a loved one to return, or waiting for a special event, the wait can be filled with a mix of emotions.

One particular experience of waiting for something special that stands out in my memory is waiting for the results of a national competition. As a high school student, I had spent months preparing for this competition, pouring countless hours into practice and studying. The competition was fierce, with talented students from all over the country participating. The anticipation leading up to the announcement of the results was intense.

The day finally arrived when the winners were to be announced. I remember waking up early that morning with a mix of excitement and anxiety. My heart was pounding as I made my way to school, where the results were to be announced. The atmosphere in the school was electric, with everyone buzzing with anticipation. We all gathered in the auditorium, waiting for the principal to take the stage and reveal the winners.

As the principal walked up to the podium, the room fell silent. He began announcing the winners one by one, and with each name called, the tension in the room grew. I held my breath, hoping to hear my name. Finally, my name was called, and a wave of relief and joy washed over me. I had achieved my goal and was one of the winners of the competition. It was a moment of pure happiness and a validation of all the hard work and dedication I had put into preparing for it.

Waiting for something special often teaches us important life lessons. It teaches us patience, resilience, and the value of hard work. It teaches us to appreciate the journey, not just the destination. While waiting can be difficult, it is often during this time that we grow the most. It is during the wait that we learn to trust the process and have faith in ourselves.

In conclusion, waiting for something special can be a rollercoaster of emotions. It can be nerve-wracking and exhilarating all at once. However, it is through the wait that we learn valuable life lessons and experience personal growth. So, the next time you find yourself waiting for something special, embrace the journey and trust that something extraordinary is on its way.

Article Two

Waiting for something special is a universal experience that transcends culture, age, and background. It is the anticipation and excitement that comes with waiting for a special event, moment, or person that creates a unique and memorable experience. Whether it's waiting for a surprise party, waiting for a long-lost friend to reconnect, or waiting for a dream job, the wait can be filled with hope, anxiety, and wonder.

One particular experience of waiting for something special that stands out in my memory is waiting for the arrival of a new family member. My sister was expecting her first child, and our family was eagerly awaiting the birth of the baby. The wait seemed endless, with each passing day bringing a mix of excitement and impatience.

As the due date approached, our anticipation grew. We would constantly check our phones, waiting for a call or message from my sister, indicating that she was in labor. Every time the phone rang, our hearts would skip a beat, hoping it was the news we had been waiting for. The days turned into weeks, and still, there was no sign of the baby's arrival.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the long-awaited call came. My sister was in labor, and we rushed to the hospital filled with excitement and nervous energy. The wait in the hospital waiting room felt like an eternity, but finally, we received the news that the baby had arrived safely. Our joy knew no bounds as we met the newest member of our family.

Waiting for something special often brings out the best in people. It teaches us the importance of patience, gratitude, and love. It reminds us of the power of hope and the beauty of anticipation. The wait itself becomes a cherished memory, as it is during this time that bonds are strengthened, relationships are deepened, and appreciation for the special moment is heightened.

In conclusion, waiting for something special is a universal experience that elicits a range of emotions. It is during the wait that we learn valuable life lessons and create lasting memories. So, the next time you find yourself waiting for something special, embrace the anticipation, cherish the journey, and savor the moment when it finally arrives.

Describe a situation you waited for something to happen.

You should say:

when and where it happened;

what you waited for;

how long you waited for it;

and explain how you felt about waiting.

Ok right then, well after thinking for a little bit just now, what I’ve decided to talk about is the time I waited for a boat at the West Lake in Hangzhou. And as for when this happened, well I suppose it must have been about two or three months ago by now, and it was on a weekend, so we kind of knew that there would be a long queue for the boats!

So yeah, when we got there, we were told that there would be a wait of about an hour or so, at least, which was what we pretty much expected. But we didn’t feel like twiddling our thumbs and hanging around for an hour doing nothing, so instead, what we actually decided to do was to get a ticket number first and then go for a walk around the lake, have lunch and then come back again in the afternoo n. Do it that way!

And I’m glad to say that, when we went back later and showed the guy our ticket, he told us we could get on the next boat. So we felt pretty good about it, and it was quite a relief as well, cos I mean, he could have told us that we missed our turn and would have to get another ticket number, you know, like they do in the bank. But thankfully, he took pity on us, especially after I’d said that we had waited for about 4 hours! So yeah, it all worked out pretty well for us, cos we almost immediately got onto a boat. I’m not sure the other people waiting were very impressed, cos it kind of looked like we were queue barging, but anyway, that’s basically what happened!

So that’s about it, thanks for listening!

Queue –队伍 (it can be used as a noun or verb)

Wait – here it is used as a noun

It was what we pretty much expected. –

twiddling our thumbs – do nothing,

it was quite a relief -令人庆幸,让我们松了一口气

he took pity on us – 他同情了我们

it all worked out pretty well for us - 最终结果不错

queue barging – jumping the queue, 插队

中国人常说Where is the book(这本书在哪儿)?很少有人说What is a book(书是什么)?而美国的小学生就开始问:What is the book?这种Where is the book只是思维的描述阶段。但是我想连大学生也很难回答What is a book?

How to explain things indifferentways(用不同的方式解释同一事物)。

比如,Iloveyou(我爱你)。

I want to kiss you,I want to hugyou,Iwill show my hearttoyou等,或者给对方讲电影《泰坦尼克》,告诉对方那就是爱,这样一来对方可能就明白了。

Describe a time you had to wait for something special to happen

You should say:

When it happened

What it was

What you did

And explain why you had to wait and how you felt about it

I couldn’t have a better understanding of what wait means if I didn’t experience waiting for the result for my first job interview. At that time, I just graduated from university and got an interview opportunity from a big famous company. I was overjoyed when hearing this. I remembered that there was only one week left for my job interview. I searched for floods of information about the history and major market of the company to fully prepare the interview. On the interview day, I began to know that there are four rounds of interviews before the final result came. First of all, I had to complete the written test. After that, I had to meet a department leader for face-to-face interview. In the third round, I had to complete a group task with other competitors. Finally, I had the opportunity to confront one of the chief executive with a final brainstorm activity. Fortunately, I won the opportunity for the fourth round. However, they told me to wait for the result in the end. I waited for the offer for two weeks. Yes, I was very confident that there could be an offer waiting for me. Nevertheless, they didn’t call me back. I can’t tolerate the fact that they didn’t give me a feedback, so I called them. They said sorry about the delaying offer but without any explanation. Coincidentally, I had to move to another city for some personal reasons. So I gave up that offer. That offer once was so special for me, but then it meant little in the end.

I felt unsatisfied without any reasonable explanation for the delaying notification of the offer. I spent so much time preparing and experiencing the interviews so I tolerated with the wait. I could understand that there’re perhaps some complicated processes to deal with before they issue an offer. However, I can’t feel any equal respect from them. At least they should do what they promised to me. Even if I didn’t move to the city I live now, I could still linger on accepting the offer. I suffered a lot from the more than two-week wait.
